if you use a mouse a 12 button gaming mouse can have quite a few shortcuts assigned to them so the main tools can be switched really easy and layer selecting also (i asigned alt to one of the buttons so alt right clicking)

For 0 frame key visibility we can set the channels we want visible in the timeline channels settings to plus (even without keys frame 0 shows the keys)

What i do is either use the hide curves button next to the display settings and or (activate the select points tool(when i have a vector layer selected) (use select bone tool when a bone layer selected (use the orgin tool when a image layer selected (but don't click anywhere with it at the time) )

A little work around i do (mostly in design stage with curve values but it could work with just about anything keyable) is go forward frames (the keys become undos) once i find the value i want then copy the key to frame zero then delete the keys.
