Stealing frames from interpolating switch layers?

Wondering how to accomplish a certain animation task? Ask here.

Stealing frames from interpolating switch layers?

Post by Honacloi »

Okay this is either a genius question or a really stupid and obvious one.

I have the head turning right, for which I have each layer on a switch layer interpolated. I have used only two drawn layers between them. If I want my character to stop on a 3/4 turn say, and rather than drawing the inbetween, can I somehow grab that midmovement from the interpolated animation? If so how?

I hope that makes sense.

good question - i couldnt' work out how to do it, but really switch layers aren't meant to be used in this way. If you used actions instead you could 'bake' the interpolated frame. You could also mix different actions with Rudiger's morph dials script, then bake that mix into a new action... Alas because switch targets sit on separate layers entirely, there's no way to copy one to the other while maintining the same pose.

having said that, the two copies' points should have the same co-ordinates, so I imagine it may be possible to script a 'copy from switch pose' script that can place one into another at a particular frame, which would allow you to do what you wanted... however, i'm not a scripted, so maybe post it as a request in the script forum?

Yes of course! It's one of those things that you felt should have been obvious to you and feel stupid for not thinking of yourself.

Cheers Genete, you havejust saved me a lot of work :D
