Modal Windows on Multi-Monitor workstations...

Post by Thatch »

After a long absence from Anime Studio I am getting back into things (and back into this forum) and I have a particular issue with the new Anime Studio Pro 8 (it probably existed before this version as well), in that I have a multi-monitor setup (2 23" wide screens and a Cintiq 21ux) While working with AS on the Cintiq if I perform an action that requires a modal window, say the color picker or the layer menu, The modal window shows up sometimes 3 monitors away from where I am working. Reaching the modal window is a real pain and a significant stoppage in my workflow. I was hoping that the modal windows would remember their positions but it doesn't seem to do so at all and I am forced to continue to move back and forth across menus to reach these windows.

I have seen the post that uses an app to remember the panel positioning but doesn't seem to effect the modal windows at all. I would of assumed that AS would of at least put the modal windows within the active monitor if maximized, but no dice. Does anyone have an idea of how to deal with this particular issue? Thanks.

BTW, good to see a lot of the same folks still active around here ... and so many new talented folks.

I think the windows will always appear on monitor nr 1. So I guess the solution, for now, would be to set the monitor you keep AS on to nr. 1.

Well not completely true, but they do tend to show up on monitor one though. That's not a completely satisfactory solution simply because the Cintiq isn't the best (in my situation at least) as the primary monitor. Though in reading through things AS has had unresolved issues with multiple monitors for some time.... While moving the primary monitor to the cintiq is will serve as a work around for now, I do hope they address the issue at some point. Thanks for the suggestion.

Had a same question on mind, about panels. Floating panels do indeed tend to stay on monitor nr.1 but in my case, they are in the middle of two monitors. Now I`m wondering if this could be somehow sorted with scripts, like saving "default" workspace?
