Simple move behind objects

Post by adub99 »

Hi filks, just a quickie really...
I have a character FINALLY created the way i want it in the character wizard (tanks to all who helped me get the desired effevts with that one).
I have inported it into a simple scene containing an imported background from anime studio (forest 2) just to test with.
Im trying to get the character to move, left to right (easy enough), but pass BEHIND one of the trees
I have set the z depth of one of the foreground trees to 1, set the depth of my character to 0.5.
A I understand it, this should put the forest 2 layer at the back (as its z depth os 0), my character in the middle and the foreground tree at the front.
(the view from the orbit camer confirms this to be the case)
HOWEVER
When I preview a scene (or render out), my character still walks past the tree IN FRONT of it, instead of disapearing behind it and reappearing at the other side of it.

Am i missing something fundamental here ?

Thanks
Andy

Go to the project settings and check the sort layer by depth option. You don't really need to move the layers in the z though. Just move the tree layer to the top of the layer order in the layer palette so that your character is below it.

Thanks Jonbo, I was getting a little muddled, as the background scene layers are all in a folder, and I assumed that they had to stay in that folder and I wouldnt be able to drag one over my character

Simplicity at its best, working great, thanks again
