"Chapel St" 3hr double feature made by 1 guy

Post by danny508 »

hi,
i was referred here by someone in another forum, and thought that maybe other anime studio users may be interested in this. i just want to add that i am nervous posting here. i don't like talking about myself, or things ive done and this is the first time in my life i ever really tried to get any of my work "out there".
my name is Danny and i am a self taught musician and artist. ive been writing music for about 20 years, drawing since very little and started teaching myself animation in 2008. in 08 i made a 20 minute "animation", more or less still pics put to music. if any animation, it was like 2 frames a second if that. i then continued to make 2 sequels, the 2nd being i think 40 minutes and the 3rd being 60 minutes. those 3 i was just learning, but was still really fun for me to see my characters "acting" along with my music. but they were pretty much rush jobs and i wanted to do better.

in feb of 2010 i started the 4th episode, which i wanted to take my time doing it. which i obviously did, as i just completed it just last month. i'm very happy with it, but wish i could do better. i'm limited on what i can do due to the age of my computer, which is actually a hand me down desktop pc from 1999 my parents gave to me.
the movie is 3 discs, part 1/2 and an extra feature disc. i put a fun interactive extra features on it. the 1st movie is 90 minutes and the 2nd movie is 100 minutes, the 2nd obviously being a continuation.
oh! something maybe you may be interested in... i used anime studio 5.5 for the animation, and pretty much the entire 1st disc, or 90 minutes (because im a slow learner) i had animated every layer independently, which was horribly time consuming. to other animators, i thought it might be cool to see, you can just about see where i started learning to animate more efficiently. anyways, my post might seem a bit weird just because as i said.. i usually keep to myself, i dont know any other artists or animators and only a few musicians from the yrs i was in a band ect....
i have some DRAFT scenes on youtube and have just uploaded two trailers for it. i just feel i want to add, it isnt a family film. real underground and has some pretty bad language in it. even so, hopefully as other animators/artists, you'll know the work involved in producing a movie by yourself, which back in 2010, i had no idea how much work it would be. and before long, it was a 16 hr a day "job". i did a lot of the voices myself, but did have a voice cast of 6. i cant even explain how happy i am that its done.
it was hard for me to try and stuff 3 hrs of info into a short trailer. i made one for the whole movie and one for the 1st disc. i hope to make some animation friends here

Anyone who makes an animated feature film alone deserves a lot of respect. Just the sheer amount of artwork required is phenomenal. From the trailers I'm not sure if I understood what the film was about? Gangs, an animal testing facility, dog fighting?? All things I wouldn't want to see a film about but I certainly have a lot of admiration for you just for completing your film. A feature film!! Wow!

thanks amigaman, i appreciate what you said!
The first movie of the set, is kind of what you described. those subjects are underlying. the main "plot" if you will is just fictional/magic fantasy type stuff. the 1st dvd being a continuation of the 3rd movie i put out. so basically, the 1st movie gets out of "real world" issues, and preps people for the fictional world. so far, those who have seen the double feature all agree that the 2nd disc is much better. not only story-wise, but also the animation ect. thanks again!
