F5 preview?

Post by ddrake »

Ok, maybe this is a really stupid question, but is there a different way now to do a quick render with Windows 8?... not the single frame, but animated preview? I have been using win7 or sadder... and assumed...

Yeah it still works but it has to be the 32bit version, it no longer works with the 64 bit, If you go to the file menu you can select to switch to 32bit mode and your file will re-open in the new version and f5 should be back up and running.

I miss this feature in 64 bit as well. Is there a way to have the 64 bit version open up a low rez AVI render with F5?

Not that I know of, It might be a case of going to Smith Micro to make that possible in the code of the programme

Does anybody know if the F5 preview will work in 64 Bit, on a Windows PC, IF you actually purchase Quicktime Pro from Apple?

In the past I've read posts by the more tech savvy forum members talking about installing codecs and other kinds of mysterious sorcery. Just wondering if there is a way to get the animated preview feature back while working in 64 Bit

Sorry, I'm not sure this is what you mean: are you talking about the Preview Animation? I'm running ASP 10 x64 on Win 7, and that command is working here, using [ctrl + shift + R] though, not [f5]. I don't know if it's using Quicktime to generate the preview but it renders an MP4 when it does. I don't see a way to change the codec for Preview Animation. (That doesn't mean you can't, I just don't know.)

FWIW, I do have a purchased license of QT installed but I don't think it's using that to generate the preview animation.

Ahhhh. I thought the quick preview render was gone with 64 bit... Thanks for the short cuts.

With the QT license, do you have the option to Export Animation in QT while running in 64 Bit? I think I remember the people working on Macs saying that they have the QT Export option in 64 Bit. I'm wondering if a Windows PC can do that if it have QT Pro...

Apple doesn't make a 64 bit version on QT for Windows, and doesn't seem to have any plans to in the future either. So no, QTPro won't help you on Windows.

I usually render to frames from ASP, so I had to check.

In ASP x64 it looks like you can save .avi (with optional codecs available) or MP4 (with h264), plus some preset variants. I don't see Quicktime .mov listed.

ASP x32, on the other hand, does support QuickTime Movie (.mov) as a separate file format.

A few x64 bit programs I use do somehow support QuickTime, even though QT is x32. Eyeon Fusion 6 x64 is one example and the recently released Lightwave 2015 x64 is another. ASP is not one of them but I think it should be possible--maybe in a future release?

Oh, I almost forgot: Sony Vegas Pro 13 and After Effects CC 2014, which are only available in x64, also support Quicktime Movie Format (.mov) for import and export. I'm not a programmer but it seems possible to support .mov in ASP x64. I think it's up to the ASP developers to implement it, not Apple.

Yeah, I've already broached the subject with the developers. I found some info on how to implement a 32 bit process by a 64 bit program and passed that on to them, even though I'm fairly sure they were probably already aware of it. I'm hoping they do decide to make QT available for 64 bit AS.

But it would have been much easier if Apple simply released a 64 bit version.
