Oh no! Is THIS how layer referencing (doesn't) works?

Wondering how to accomplish a certain animation task? Ask here.

OK, so layer referencing was a really cool feature to me but is ruined by a curtain behavior.

Ok so my character has multiple switcher layer for a head and then multiple switch layer for mouth type and then multiple switch layer for mouth shape per type. See?

So I set it up so that every mouth references a master mouth so that, all I have to animate is one mouth and the rest will fallow along and all I have to do is change the head position switch layer.

THe problem is, when I import the character into a new project, the layer reverence the layers in the original file instead if the layer within the working project.

This causes the the layer to not animate as intended because when I animate the master mouth within the project, all the mouths are referencing the mouth all the way in that original file, instead of the master mouth that I am immediately working with.

Does this make sense? Is there a way to do what I am trying to do?

There are no "casade" references. Import your mouths normally (not as reference), that should work.
