Slanted Transform - Jumping when Paste-ing/ Grouping

Post by Fonce Falooda »

Hey! I've been making progress, but I've hit some things that I'm not sure how to approach.

I drew a head on an angle (in several pieces, so the way I leveled it out was with the Transform Layer tool on the group layer), but now when I go to Transform Points on any of the layers, it won't let me just pull them RIGHT. It's on the original slant that I drew it on, and then rotated.

Image

I want to pull all the points the direction of the red arrow, but you can see that i wants me to pull them diagonally up or down. Is there any way of re-leveling this?

Also, I've found that when I group stuff (Group with Selection), they'll not be in the place they were, and I'll have to hit "Reset" up top to get them back to where they were. Why does Grouping things make them move?

Just now I just tried to copy the contents of my Face layer and paste them into a new layer, and got this...

Why does it not put it where it was originally?

Anyway, I'm slowly getting there, and this is all workaround-able, but if there's a way to fix this stuff, I'd love to know it. Thanks! :)

I'm guessing that this is just the way it is and there're no answers to be given, or I've already used up my allotment of stupid questions. ;)

Either way, suppose I'll learn to live with working around it. Flash does way weirder stuff. Thanks!

You generally want to rotate the points instead of the layer.

Hey, Synth! The problem is that I'd already blown the head into several layers that I wanted to rotate together, and since I can't select points on more than one layer at a time, I had rotate the layers. If there's a way to do this by just rotating the points, please tell me!

There seems like there should be a way to re-level an origin point, or at least not have the Transform Points tool respect it. Why does the Transform Points tool care about whether or not I've rotated the layer? Just transform the points already! :p

And I'm hoping my whole "jumping when grouping/ paste-ing" issue is a newbie thing I caused inadvertently did at some point and maybe won't happen on the next project.

Thanks for responding! :)

Points are moved in the coordinate system of their layer, so if you've rotated the layer, the coordinates that define point position are rotated too. You can reset layer rotation, but you'd have to either point rotate everything individually or paste it all to one layer, rotate the points and separate it all out again to fix it. Things jumping when you paste them is probably because the destination layer, or its parent layer, has a layer transform.
