Importing PSD files with "Styles" intact

Post by jasonbice15 »

Hi Everyone,

I'm hoping this is a really simple solution but when I create an image in photoshop and add a style to it, and then import it into anime studio, the Style is not imported as well. Does anyone have a quick fix for this?

Thanks

You have to "bake" the style into the image layer before importing to AS.

AS recognizes only bitmap style layers in PS. A style in PS is a totally different thing from a style in AS.
AS 9.5 MacPro Quadcore 3GHz 16GB OS 10.6.8 Quicktime 7.6.6
AS 11 MacPro 12core 3GHz 32GB OS 10.11 Quicktime 10.7.3
Moho 13.5 iMac Quadcore 2,9GHz 16GB OS 10.15
Moho 14.1 Mac Mini M2 Pro OS 13.7.6

But is there a way I can import it with the style intact?

Short answer: 'no'. As slowtiger said, you'll need to merge the styles to the layers or groups they've applied to before importing the art to ASP. The quickest way to do this is to select your layers or group that have the styles and press Ctrl E--this will merge the selection. Naturally, you'll want to work on a copy of your PSD since this is a destructive procedure. Also note that if the PSD has already been imported once, this action will probably break the existing import because it will probably change some of the layer IDs. (One of the reasons I generally avoid importing layered PSD files.)

ASP has some comparable effects you can apply to its own Styles but this is a completely different system from the Styles system found in Photoshop and After Effects.

Small correction to the above: In Photoshop, Ctrl E will indeed merge layers with Style FX but if you have only one layer selected with a Style applied, you need to use Rasterize Layer Style. Ctrl E will always try to merge a layer with the one below it if only one layer is selected, which probably isn't the desired result here.

Sorry...totally forgot that till I just did it myself right now. :)
