New Brushes Not Showing up

Hi,

I created some brushes (actually got png versions from Photoshop brushes) and put them into the Brushes folder.
I reopened AS 11 but the brushes don't show up when I click on the "No Brush" button.
There are plenty of other brushes, but not the new ones.

Also, I have some brushes I downloaded that were free and they don't show up either.

Which version are you using?

In 12 Pro, the location for brush art is here:

C:\Program Files\Smith Micro\Moho 12\Resources\Support\pro\brushes

In 12 Debut, it's here:

C:\Program Files\Smith Micro\Moho 12\Resources\Support\debut\brushes

Also, I think you need to quit Moho and restart it before the added brushes will show up.

better to put custom brushes (i.e. those that aren't "factory supplied") in your custom content folder rather than the software distribution / program folders. (i.e. whilst you can put them in the program folders as suggested by Greenlaw, it's not really recommended)

you're in AS11? .. run AS11 and then Help / Open Custom Content Folder

there's a subfolder in there called "Brushes" - that's where to put the brush .png


If you have done that and they're not visible after restarting AS (or reloading: ctrl-alt-shift L -- yep 4 keys) then please say - this probably means that there's something not right about the brush pngs

I'm using version AS11. I'm on a Mac.

I moved the brushes to the content folder as you suggested, hayasidist. I also did the same with some templates that weren't showing up either. That worked.

The brushes, however, must have something wrong with them. I was saving Photoshop abr. brushes as png files to try to get them into AS. Instead of looking like they're supposed to, they're just black squares. But that sounds like a different problem.

I'll have to see why they won't work. But meanwhile, thanks for the info on where to put the brushes.

Turns out I had put aliases instead of the actual brushes into the folder. Now it's working fine.

Yes, do what hayasidist says.

I've only recently started playing with custom brushes and I did use the 'main' brushes directory in my tests, but he's absolutely right in saying your custom brush files should go in the custom content directory. This will make it easier to manage and move your custom files for other versions of ASP/Moho in the future. This is assuming of course that your current program is pointing to this content directory.

Actually, software not working with aliases is a bug in my book. But AS is not the only software being stubborn in this regard.

Maybe on Mac but unfortunately this is normal behavior on Windows.

On Windows I believe Shortcuts need to be turned into Symbolic Links to behave like actual files to programs. I know that's what we do at my workplace to get programs to find resources located in directories other than where the program is expecting to find them. TBH, I don't know if this will actually work in this case as I've never tried it. Just posting this info for anybody on Windows who needs to do this and wants to try it.

It's been a long time since I owned a Mac so I'm not sure how it works there. If it's supposed to work with aliases' on Mac then maybe it's a bug.
