I am creating a trailer for my friend as a surprise 'gift' just to show him what a series like his could look like animated...but I am not really liking how it is looking. It was initially only suppose to take me a week because it is mostly non moving images but it's taking me longer.
It is a shonen like anime targeting "furries" as its audience. I was initially referencing animation from shows like Wolf Children, Naruto, Summer Wars (King Kazma), and Princess Mononoke but my friend really likes ai anime generations. When I ran some of my images through ai generators they came back better and but a different style. I have started getting a bit lost and overwhelmed on this simple concept trailer.
The thing about newer anime (even 'My Hero Academia') is that it's started to look more complex. Ai takes that complexity even further. But animation like what was seen in Wolf Children had a more simple cutesy look to show the toddlers/young children popping back and forth between wolves and children. Nature itself in the movie was drawn more realistically. However since my series features a wolf transforming child around real wolf pups it is harder to make that distinction, needing only one wolf puppy design for all.
Furthermore in Wolf Children they were closer to the age of toddlers, while mine look like young children.
I am also struggling with the tone of the trailer between overly harsh and mushy. I can't really change the audio at this point but creating a more cool feel through the drawings may be important.
The longer I work on this trailer, the more I feel missed the mark on everything.
Any thoughts?
BTW I am not a noob (despite this trailer looks it), I just misplace my old username/password to this account. My other works have more serious tones. This is just ending more and more out of my comfort zone. I don't seem to know what I am doing.
Lipsyncing well I am just going be bad at... 'shrugs'
This series may be based in Rome and later Mexico. Idk, I am not a writer. All I can say is the Romulus and Remus wolf statue has similar patterns on it to Alebrije animals so I just threw it in there. I am not such if I can even consistently animate the colors on Alebrije animals. My thoughts were random on this. I was thinking more along the lines of how diverse furries have become over the years, mixing up various animals and being brightly colored. They are far from the simple wolf with natural colors now-days.
But any other suggestions are welcome.
A question on styles of various works. (Wolfchildren, Ai, Etc)

Quick Update: I was able to fix some of my issues by aging down the boys. https://youtu.be/95UMddCBFYg.
Still working on a bunny ears sprouting from the head and many other scenes but it is some progress. Half of the problems are still with character design. I gave the boys too short of hair for easy transformations like those scene in wolf children. I just wanted to make sure they looked like boys. The finished part ends with the wolf, the boy and the bunnies in the hilly meadow, after that its back to a mess. At least its just concept work.
