If you want to render the same scene in 3D and in 2D, here is a simple trick :
Add a distant light to render in 3D... OK !!! Nothing's new here !!!
THEN make this light INVISIBLE (do not delete it !) to render the scene... in 2D !!!
Don't forget to add 30 % (or more) Ambient color on your surfaces. Finished !!!
Carrara 6.2.1 Pro default 3D render of PiSong's TreeFrog, using a distant light source with basic ambient brightness set at 20%
Carrara 6.2.1 Pro default 3D render of PiSong's TreeFrog, using a distant light source (with visibility set to off) and basic ambient brightness set at 100% using p6r's trick
Carrara 6.2.1 Pro default 3D render of PiSong's TreeFrog, using 6r's trick, & DCG Toon! Pro plugin
Ouawwwww !
Fantastic 2D frog !!!
I have tested with the default cartoon render of Daz : (With a rotation of the distant light and without rotation ! And with 30% ambient color then with 100% !)
Interesting (thanks dazza101 !) but strange outlines !
It could be better with toonshaders in Daz !?!
I don't think it's possible to export that in vector format !?!

I didn't spend a lot of time optimising the image, but I thought the outlines were okay... In Carrara it is possible to export the image as a vector file using VectorStyle 2 - however the plugin hasn't really been updated for C6, so so of the colour info gets lost in the translation. In this case the eyes go AWOL...
