Poser in ASP 7

Post by uddhava »

Hi, I am just wondering if any one has experimented with importing Poser scenes into ASP 7 and if they have any examples? Thanks.

I have experimented much and I can tell you it's not good.
I am posting on this subject in this thread,

3d yes....POSER no.
....anyone else got an opinion on this?

Do you mean that the integration with ASP is not good or that it's not good just because it's Poser? What actually can be done with it?

The Anime 3d engine doesn't seem to be designed to run these bloated poser objects, I think the idea of a full 3d render in ASPRO is absurd, but a object with a 3d rig made from 2d aspro shapes could be very very good,.

Chucky, thanks for the link to the other post. Yes, Poser is kind of clunky and not really a top notch 3d program to say the least.

Is there any use at all for importing Poser scenes into ASP though? Any possible way that I could use it to help me create animations in ASP?

I ask because I get discount offers for Poser 7 often and I wonder if there could be any use for it. Maybe in the mood of "the best use of a bad bargain."

Ok I ran through the full test, build a model in maya, rigged it (as required by aspro) in poser , which is a really crap experience .

Then bring that new poorly rigged poser file into ASPRO.
This is the only way to get a 3d rig into ASPRO, unless you go poser pro and use collada to transfer the maya built rig- that would require far more money than sense BTW so SM are dreaming if they think they will make any money with that tie in.- Who are these geniuses?

Now watch as your carefully built geometric masterpiece refuses to move.
That's right, not the fast and elegant fluidity that we come to expect from all things ASPRO, with that crisp line and easily adjusted bone system.
No you now have a clunky non editable model that feels like it weighs the same as an ocean liner, even when you can practically count the polygons on your fingers.

Oh yeah and the render? This was the worst and really I was only expecting flat colour with an outline. Sure there are more options at an immediate glance, but try and actually get a render you can use. Impossible, the width of the models outlines are actually dependent on the amount of polys, not a render setting.

I challenge anyone to get good use out of that.
The introduction of poser files to ASPRO is an embarrassing party trick, that I feel compelled to look away from...... "No Mike don't do it!"
Oh he'll regret that in the morning, must have really hurt too. :?

It really is an unmitigated disaster uddhava..... words can't describe.

Hmmmmmm, sounds pretty bad.
Thanks for all information and the time spent. Sounds like SM threw that in as a "bonus" but it's actually pretty useless. Oh well.

Thanks again.

Incidentally I did of course test the standard supplied poser rig in ASPRO too, all the results were the same.
