hi everyone. i think i saw this somewhere before but i cant remember. i think a script was used or something. anyway im trying to get a bone constraint to a bone that is outside the current layer at the top of the hierarchy. please if anyone has a solution to this problem id really appreciate the help.

Why don't you just set the constraint directly to that bone? It's nothing that will change in time.

@slowtiger i might be doing it wrong but i dont seem to be able to constrain a bone to another bone outside the current bone layer. it just does'nt show when i pop down the bone constrain rollout. it seems you can only constrain bones within the same bone group by default.

@neeters_guy. i tried doing the mike green search but the result was was so overwhelming. went through some and eventually gave up for now. will something to narrow it down be too much to ask.

can you post a file? you might be over complicating your build causing yourself problems - it's hard to advise when we can't really see what's going on...?

Sometimes there are better ways to set up a character rig that doesn't require constraints outside of a bone layer. When I first started using "Moho" years ago, I also wanted to constrain bones outside a bone layer. Now days, I hardly need that ability. I plan my characters in a way that doesn't require that. If you could show the character layout, rig, bone structure maybe there is another way to do it.
