Light effect (Solved)
What I want to do is have a scene with a band on stage with a light show. I want to give the illusion of different colored lights from above the stage shining down and side to side. The lights moving and so on.
I can do this and probably would take a while, but was wondering how some folks here might accomplish this task. Im sure theres many tricks I'm not even aware of.
Thanks

This, plus a change on layer blending mode should work good.Danimal wrote:If you're wanting to see the lights moving (like cones of light), you could do this easily with basic vector shapes and just make their fills mostly transparent. Make several in a switch layer and you can have them change color too.

I looked in the manual and was virtualy one paragraph about layer blending mode. I just found it but nothing in the manual about any of the options and what they do.selgin wrote:This, plus a change on layer blending mode should work good.Danimal wrote:If you're wanting to see the lights moving (like cones of light), you could do this easily with basic vector shapes and just make their fills mostly transparent. Can't find much on transperancy either. I will look for further reading on the subjects. If you guys know of any, please let me know.
And thanks for the help
Edit: Never mind. Im figureing it out just by messin with it LOL! I got it now.
Thanks again
For making a light effect you should work with the transparency, soft edge and also layer blending modes.
Make a shape for the light, then reduce its alpha to 100 or something like that, and also may be you could apply to it a little bit of soft edge effect, the number depends on the size of the light shape.

I only messed with the transperency and sofened it up a bit. It looks like I want it.PARKER wrote:For making a light effect you should work with the transparency, soft edge and also layer blending modes.

But Layer Blending Mode. Dont know how it works and no clue where to read up on it. Cand find anything in any tutorials. At least so far.
Actualy I find it hard to find info on the more advanced features. I get better info here than in Help.
Doenst matter, work with soft edge and transparency that would be enough.gamester wrote:I only messed with the transperency and sofened it up a bit. It looks like I want it.PARKER wrote:For making a light effect you should work with the transparency, soft edge and also layer blending modes.

A new deal. My file is at

If you lookin Lightshow/parcan2 You will see the red light is Bellow Parcan2, which is the middle light fixture in the file. It shows the light behind the parcan. But if you preview it, you can see the light on THIS side. like the depth changed or something. Any ideas on this?
Thanks

Well fortunately I save my work regularly. I went back to the beginning of this “light show” now the light beam layer is in front of the character like it’s suppose to be, But the light beam is still in front of the “Parcan” light fixtures in preview or rendered modes, which should not be. The beam layer is below the fixture layer. So WHY is this happening? Or even better HOW is this happening. Latest file here if anyone wants to take a look.

OK. My bad. Some how the the parcan layers were set to lumesy. When I added them, it kind of worked but you could still see some trancperency up there. I just set them all back to normal and poof.
I think I know what might have happened before. I would hit cntr and hit wrong keys by mistake. and didnt undo. I could have fouled all kinds of stuff up.
And Im using AS 7.1 pro. I think thats up to date.
Thanks for your help.
