Moho Animation Forum

I don't know anything about Linux, but that sounds like Moho might be having permission problems with accessing settings and/or registration files. I have no idea where those would be on anything but Windows.

Just a blind guess, mind you.

I'd love to see a Moho port to Linux too. My main OS these days is Debian-Testing on my workstation, and Mint on my laptops (although I still run a variety of other OSes, since I'm a geek .

Lutris was a good hint. I installed and ran Moho a couple of times on a steam deck. The basics seem to work fine, also there is no lag while drawing or navigating. However using bitmap layers makes large black areas fringed by blocky artifacts, at least when using "multiply" blending mode. Maybe there is some setting in Lutris to mitigate this, but I haven't explored this yet.

Even if this works, there's still the issue with file manager integration. Not having preview thumbnails is a big deal IMO. So a native version would be highly appreciated.

A support executive pointed out to me a post on WineHQ where Moho 12 was able to function on Linux by installing Microsoft Visual Studio C++ 2013 via Winetricks.

I've been trying it for Moho 13.5, and still having trouble, although I may be doing it wrong. If anyone else wants to test it, let me know.

In my last attempt once I installed that Visual C++ runtime, I didn't run into any errors with the application (aside from the one problem of not being able to get past registering my software). Most of my work is with the vector drawing tools, so your mileage may vary. I strongly recommend using either GEProton or Dawn Winery Proton for emulation. That seems to fix pretty much all of the graphical glitches that you run into with standard Wine.
