What's the green shape that jumps when the ball hits it?

Thanks Genete....lol well I had to put something there because I saw the ball changed the direction so I placed it there for the ball to bounce at, I don't know what it is...maybe a childrens toy or something.

hehe, nice one ulrik - i actually sat for a while watching the video waiting for the toaster to pop, when i realised it hadnt started playing yet! anticipation at its best.
dlangdev - nice idea

it would have been cool if he was dodging searchlights too... nice one.
Genete - Your 2nd attempt has much more personality, well done

I guess it's sort of copying the iceberg idea, though not really, because it's quite different.
It was supposed to be widescreen though...

nice explosion
I was thinking, we could keep it as a ball challenge every month, but come up with a theme? (like 'love','hate','humour') and we have to try and give the ball THAT emotion?
It means we can concentrate on ANIMATION and not drawing?
What you think?

I think that's a good idea, well for me it's absolutely a challange, I'll support this!

I agree also but only four points for the ball is extremely difficult to give more expression to that ball (from my point of view).
can you take a simple ball and put him in some situation? this is practicing the power of animation at its simplest - the star is the ball - in this case just 4 points.
Can it be a five or six points ball?

It could just be a blob or whatever shape, though. That wouldn't stop you from using as many points as you would like, I guess. Rules could include just using one single colour for the shape, using up to (...) points for the ball. Something like that.
If you'd like it to focus on animation instead of drawing you could also actually just allow only one certain character from the library that everyone should use, though a blob is probably more versatile.

Hey, nice contributions, everybody.
This was fun! Let's keep it up!

I think there's MUCH you can do with a four point ball. I don't think you need more than four points to express a lot of things!
And I think there's a couple of good reasons to stick with this simple blob philosophy (four-point, five-point six-point... whatever... as long as we don't succumb to facial expressions or recognizable figures or body shapes)
1. with the "blob" we can keep this challenge thing fast, simple and FUN to do. And you don't have to put a lot of time to building character-rigs and stuff...
2. If we avoid recognizable bodyshapes and facial expressions we can keep this as a pure animation exercise. When the shape we use is this limited it means that we really have to concentrate on the movement, the animation of it. You know, we are forced to speak body language through those four points. That's a very good exercise, IMO
But most important... let's keep it fun!
(Do we really need a lot of rules, anyway?)

Ok FOUR points...
Hehe I'm imagining a lot of tricks to give personality to those just four points.
And please, the anme file is mandatory. I want to learn...
Cheers!

we could say up to 8 points...?
If you want something more 'blubbery' you need more than 4 points to vibrate... Thanks for supporting - i think if we do keep it to an 8 point blob for the future, like you say, it means we have to concentrate on movement, and we dont have to dedicate lots of time to rigging and design... that was my original idea.
having more than 8 points might actually make your life more difficult, unless you specifically need more than 4 to create a particular effect... try to keep it simple.
You can switch between a blob of up to 8 points in any rigging you like to achieve anything you want - you dont have to use point animation - come up with new ways
I think it would help everybody focus if every time we concentrated on one emotion or situation (i.e. 'anger', 'blob goes shopping' or 'blob star wars' or whatever lol)
Maybe bi-weekly rather than monthly, as the challenge will not take a great deal of time to complete under these rules and theres no real deadlines, people can just add to this thread if they get inspired, but we start a new thread every time we start a new theme...

lmao! that is awesome! hehe
actually 'gymnastics' is a great idea for a future theme as it could be so many events - or how about 'Ball-ympics?'

just a side note...
i'm doing a self-study on human anatomy for several months now, and i'm at the point where two skills need to match: animation and anatomy.
if there's a group willing to do a study on it, i'd be very much interested.
regarding the ball animation, i'm definitely in to it. i'm always here ready to study and learn with you guys, perhaps even cooperatively compete.
forgot to mention it will all be done using ASP5 tools.

Right - ive done another one, inspired by Caps latest post
Ball Rings.

Did you all miss my mallet one? it was sort of mentioned at the bottom of an earlier post but no one picked up on it
Anyway - i need practice... and this is a good way to practice the fundamentals of animation
