Anime Studio for motion graphics?

Hi, I'm interested in purchasing Anime Studio primarily to dabble in motion graphics. I know it's not a dedicated motion graphics tool, but it seems quite versatile (and much cheaper than After Effects, although I realise Anime Studio is not competing against AE).
I'd like to learn how to make elements spin, zoom in and out, pan across etc. - nothing particularly complicated.
What does everyone think of using AS for this type of work? What are people's opinions of the particle system?
Thanks
