VERY strange problem with a finished rig

Hi there! Thanks a lot for taking your time to answer this inquiry. You see, I Just finished a good character right that works but I can't really animate or work on it because something weird happens.

You see, altough all parts are there (and the PNGS that make them are ok, I double checked) some of the parts just decide not to appear when doing the rig (making it even more difficult) but they do appear if I select their layers) they're mostly inside switch layers. Look:

But you see, If I advance the timeline to frame 70... I can see them! (well, except for the lower arm as you can see) I really don't know what's going on.

Image

Could you please help me? I would love to get this done so I can start animating and thank you for all support on the matter. Have a good day!

By the way. The girl has the lower parts of her arms and hands on switch layers because the lower arm can be exchanged for a Front arm position, and her hands can be closed or open.

Did you rig this with offset bones? And, if so, did you bind the switch layers to the appropriate bone?

My guess is you didn't.

Mkelley: Yes I did rig with offset bones and layers are bound to their corresponding bones. Just in case I'm going to double check.

I checked for keyframes on any (movement or visibility) part of the timeline but I'm still not getting it to work. If I place the cursor on frame72 I can see everything EXCEPT for the lower part of the left arm. If I place my cursor on Frame 0 I can see the exploded view of the character's parts but the eyes, lower arms (of both arms) and both hands are invisible.

All was imported at frame 0 (well, I exported from photoshop using the plugin) PNGS are fine and all should be well. I have not created any keyframes too. Any ideas?

Make sure the layers are visible. Turn on layer visibility in the layer channel settings. Select each layer one at a time with the visibility channel visible in the timeline. Check to make sure they are all visible... including layers INSIDE the switch layers.

The fact that they "appear" and "disappear" on different key frames sounds like a visibility issue.

I often do this myself by accident. I create or import new layers on a frame other than 0 and the layer is invisible. Since you are using that Photoshop script... who knows what might have happened.

Another thing to check, zoom WAAAAY out and check to see if maybe some layers are off the screen somewhere. Maybe bound to the wrong bone or something.

You're a life saver Heyvern.
What flavor? I always thought of myself as a "Winter Green".

;)

So... are you going to tell us what it was? Visibility? Wrong bone binding? I need to know so I can put it in my diary. ;)

It was layer visibility. For some strange reason it was not on on the accused layers. Thanks a lot.

Now I gotta figure out how to animate her without making it all jerky.

Really nice drawing style, by the way...
