do layers need unique names or are they ok as long as they are in a group or bones layer? Will there be conflicts? I need to speed up the layer creation and naming process.

what I know is that layers have "internal names" independently of the name you wrote, so there won't be any trouble, except you have been working with some script which could need unique named layers. correct me if i'm wrong.

also, there are scripts which ask you to have repeated names (one from fazek, if I remember well, for example).

I never have had any trouble with repeated names. but if so, there is a script of crashcore which rename the layers names to make them unique.

Thanks Selgin!
I have not had problems yet, but I know of some scripts for naming. I have not yet reached a point where I need a script, but I think I am seeing why people have made them. My drum teacher told me not to try to invent the wheel from scratch, but often I still do.

Nearly everything in AS that can be named has no restrictions. Layer names can be anything. Bone names, anything. The names of many layers can be exactly the same. Named shapes.

There is only one item I am aware of that can't have duplicate names, named styles. AS will not allow duplicate names for named styles. It always adds a "2" or a number to the end of the name if there is more than one style with the same name.

(I wish auto-named shapes, bones and layers had that).

I was actually confused about the name thing from one of your posts. Don't you have a script for naming duplicate bones? I have never been able to figure out the thread on that.
