does AS shut down when i'm trying to export a swf. it's taken me two days to try and export 6 .swf files, the longest of which is only 500 frames, and i still have 5 more to go. is there some setting i need to adjust, or do i just have to keep relaunching and trying again?

There are so many possible things that could be going wrong! In the first instance, I would look at the Help files concerning optimising files for swf export, and just try to optimise your files if that is possible as a first step.
Next, I would try to export short segments (individual scenes), and see if that improved things. What I have been reduced to on occasions in the past is exporting just a few layers at a time and "compositing" them in Flash. It can be a real PITA, I know...
Try some of these things and report back!

Isn't this the "batch exporting" solution thingee?
I don't pay much attention to this (because I only write out BMP files) but it seems to me the answer to these kinds of problems is to use the batch mode. Or I may be dreaming (sorry -- not too sharp right at the moment).
Try a forum search here for "batch" and see what comes up.

I try the batch export and it seems to run through to 100%. Problem is, I can't find the output file. It's not putting it in the same location as the AS file.

The manual says "When a file is finished and disappears from the list, you can find the rendered result in the same folder as the Anime Studio file itself."
If you're saying it's not there I'm not sure where to look (if it's a PC just do a file search for it -- I'm sure the Mac has a similar option).

Why o why do people keep calling their threats "why o why...". I think stating your problem clearly in the subject title would make everything a lot easier.
