switch layer and bones problem

Hi everyone, this is probably a newby question but I couldn't find an obvious answer after a quick look at the tutorials and manuals.

I've set up a switch layer of whole arms with different hand shapes.

I've then parented the switch layer to a bone layer to control the arm shape, but all I get is rotation of the visible switch layer when you move the bones not control of the vector shape.

Thanks in advance, Rob.

The usual structure you should use for a switch layer that changes different hands positions is this:

1) Bone layer (skeleton of the character including the forearm bone, the arm bone and a bone to control the hand -let's call it hand bone-)
1.1) Vector layer for forearm
1.2) Vector layer for arm
1.3) Switch layer for hand
1.3.1) Bone layer hand 1
1.3.1.1) Vector layer (s) for hand 1
1.3.2) Bone layer hand 2
1.3.1.2) Vector layer (s) for hand 2
....
1.3.n) vector layer hand n
1.3.1.n) Vector layer (s) for hand n

Only one Bone layer hand is visible each time.

What you have to do is bind the Switch layer to the hand bone. To do that select the Switch layer, select the Bind layer tool (a sheet with a bone on it) and click over the "hand bone". It would get red and from that moment the switch layer (therefore any of the visible bone layer hand 1...n) will follow that bone.

Thanks for taking the time to explain it. That makes a lot more sense.
