Upcoming video tutorial

Post by synthsin75 »

Okay, I've decided that the first tutorial I'm going to do is on masking. It almost makes me cry to hear people say, "well that'll probably require masking so that's out of the question". I couldn't live with out the masking feature.

What I need to know is if I should keep the tutorial aimed at newbies or focus on intermediate to advanced users. I have AS Pro so I'm inclined to use Pro features.

Also, any suggestions on specific masking tasks you might like me to use as example would be appreciated.

...And maybe anyone willing to host these.

masked men

masking is a great idea for a tutorial.

I wonder if you couldn't start out with a quick
tutorial on beginning masking and then get
into something more complicated?

PS
I just ordered an upgrade to AS Pro!

I would make the target audience be the "intermediate users" but take the extra time to show what you are doing (each click on what for why) so that beginners can try to keep up... Seems to be a win - win.

I agree with toonertime. Start out simple for beginners and then progress to more advanced stuff. I can be a simple as this or as complicated as this...

Thanks for the feedback guys. I figured I'd need to at least do a quick run through of the basics, and I definitely want to cover some advanced techniques. So I'm may have to do several separate tutorials to cover all that, but that's cool.

I'm learning a few things myself just setting up the files I intend to provide with the tutorials.

I'm having a little trouble coming up with a seriously advanced masking (one that utilizes all of the masking options). If anyone has any ideas, especially you masking pros, let me know. If not, I'll just cover all of the options over the course of several examples.

Or if anyone has like a nested setup that they think might need some complicated masking, I'd look at using it as one of my examples.

Hey synthsin75.
I'd like to see a good masking tutorial on taking a flat coloured 2D character and applying shading to the face, body etc to give a semi 3D look. (my two cents worth)

Cheers

Thanks DK. That could be made into a fairly complex masking setup. I'm not really looking to build a whole working character for this, but a simple character with a complex mask I think is in order.

Feel free to use any info you need from the thread here:

viewtopic.php?t=9669

And don't hesitate to ask me anything if you need to. Just PM if you need any input. Not suggesting you need my help in anyway... just putting the offer out there in case.

Masking can get hairy sometimes... even I still get confused. ;)

Thanks Vern. Your video example of masking was the inspiration for doing this tutorial. Hopefully I can manage to explain masking in a way that reaches the middle ground between the technical definition of masking and the practical analogies.
