How about a sticky with a list of only the very
BEST finished pieces done in anime.
I guess this could only be done by an moderator, (...I don't know how forums are managed).

...define best...
I mean... I'm not exactly a prominent member of this forum so excuse me if this sounds a little cocky but I mean... it's hard to say what makes a good film... everyone knows that. first of all there's differences of opinion, secondly (and this is especially relevant because a lot of us are either amateurs or are only just breaking into the professional world) there will be films that have good animation but poor story, and films with great story or humour or something but animation that is a bit lacking.
I like the idea cos I like to see stuff that inspires me with anime studio... but I think if a mod is gonna regulate it by themselves, it'd have to be someone with a pretty diverse taste in film.

Good point Springy, but I didn't say the best of anything except for anime studio pieces and I really doubt that there's enough to overwhelm us with choice.
I hope there would be as much variety and quality as possible showcasing at least the potential of this software so as to inspire us to reach for the highest standards with it.
The art of film making and storytelling, well that's another issue and maybe another discussion topic that could really provoke some true ranting ( especially from me)
If the storytelling and acting is really that good, then the artistic use of AS animation would have been called into action no matter how naive the drawing might be so I think the piece should make it in, if it exploits AS efficiently as well as pieces that might be purely great craftsmanship.
Tough question though, I definitely don't have all the answers either.

to choose the films on the list, you could have a thread where users could nominate their favs. You could also organize the list by separating it into several subsections with headings like "character design" "story" "animation" etc.

thing is character design and story dont have much to do with Anime Studio - they are down to the artist... if you want it to be a showcase of anime studios abilities it should be purely based on technical achievement with the program, which should either be visual or animation based.
Showing a fantastic story without showing any real abilities of Anime Studio will sort of defeat the object no?

Yeah, that's the best idea I've heard ,funksyaname. I think technical achievement in AS would be the only solid basis on which to judge. There are plenty of sites that showcase animation, but we want to see the most innovative animation AS can pull off.

You got it guys, that's exactly what I meant in the topic description.
Just the best of 'Anime Studio',I should have been clearer about that, it's a bit confusing as it's a genre too.

I think the thread would have to be locked, and then the biggest question is if a moderator would have the time to maintain it. Look over nominated pieces and decide what links should be copied to that thread.
Vern seems to be the only real active moderator, and he seems to be busy enough with work and scripting. (Please don't pull him away from scripting.

Yes I think the moderator participant list here needs updating.

maybe the first thing you should do is find a bunch of movies you want to use, otherwise you might as well just link to
http://www.greykid.com/ and have done with it lol
having said that - they are a studio, i think technical achievement doesn't necesserily have to be a complete project by any means, it could just be a technique test that paid off... speaking of which i liked your walk cycle in the other thread chucky

There's been some great stuff in the share your work forum. Would be good to see it all grouped together.
It'd be better if it was a gallery page on the lostmarble.com site though, easier to find, but does anyone even update that anymore?

Had to hunt that one up. Can't believe I've never seen that.
...I don't need to leave negative comments.
