I created some text with insert text into a vector layer.

(my first attempts with vectors)

I've been able to edit the text to my liking for a logo, but now I'm stumped.
I'm trying to take a line segment and merge it into another character.

What I tried was welding the line segment. Moving the segment on top of the point and pressing space bar didn't work. I figured out how to delete a line segment and that worked.

The problem is equivalent to trying to put a cherry onto a scoop of ice cream. Say you have a cherry (circle) and you want to merge it's outline onto the larger circle of the ice cream. Is there some other trick to get weld to work? I tried putting the points in place and using Create Shape, but it seems the line segments of the original shape and the new piece aren't joining.

I was clicking.

You just need to drag to connect line segments. When you start on one
it will auto weld and when you end on one it also autowelds.

I found it easy to add temporary points, weld them to the shapes to join so that the lines are connected, delete the temp points, then position the merging shape.

Very easy once you understand it.

I've gotten line segments to join, but now I can't get the new letter to be a shape. I've tried creat shape, selected all points, the CreateShape buttom becomes active - but when I click on it the selection of points disappears and it doesn't act like a shape.

Do shapes created by InsertText behave differently? I thought they were just all converted to points anyway.

To fill a shape, select all points in the shape and hit spacebar.
The AS drawing tutorials cover this really well and are very quick and easy to do. I flew through them all in 2 days when I bought my copy of Moho 2.1 many years ago

I have "The Official Guide", or are you referring to something else?

I'm talking about the onboard tutorials under the help menu in AS.

Just check you have the visibility on rogermate, that may sound obvious but ,hell, I did the same thing just the other night.
It makes a shape but when you press the space bar all you see are the vertices if your visibility is on the you will see the shape you had actually succesfully made many times but been unable to see it appear.
this might not be it , but maybe it is.

Thanks chucky. I battled through things late night and am not sure what fixed things. I deleted and copied to another layer and tried to rebuild from there.

One definite problem is that my shape had a hidden closed region. Though it didn't look like it, it was analogous to a coffee mug. The big shape had my attention by there was an open part I could not see - points were not welded. The problem was the handle, a very small overlap of points existed with a fill which was blocked by the outline.

A bit more time required to learn the basics than I first thought.
