Highlight text with a shine or something

Looking for ideas (or .anme examples if they exist would be reall cool)
for how I could highlight text.

One idea is to animate a color change of the text, which could be subtle or dramatic. Another is size.

Is there some way to get shiny stars to flash across the letters without a lot of work?

One idea I had was to have another layer behind the text, but with a soft edge that extendes out father. This layer could be flashed or faded, it could be white, red, yellow.

Just looking for any other ideas.

There's 2 things which come immediately to mind for me.

One is the ideas.

And the 2nd is the tools to do it.

1. work out ideas, play with them,
Use a photocopier, photoshop, pencil and paper,
and play with ideas
and come up with some stuff you want to replicate in As

2. Learn
- meshinstance
- masking
in AS

apply 2 to 1, and post the results in the forum
I'd love to see how you go.
Good luck

First, I haven't done anything on paper first. Funny in this computer age that paper could still be usefull for design and ideas, but I can see how that could make sense.

I know what masking is, I can see how a moving mask would be good for a moving highlight. My first thought was to have the highlight on a layer which could be brought into focus. I've recently learned some of the Gimp, and am starting get get comfortable with masks. I bookmarked a thread with a big masking tutorial on this forum before, am going to try to make time to watch it.

meshinstance - hmmm. Nothing about it in the Official Guide book, which is my starting point. Is that something in the scripting?

For something like that I'd suggest learning masking and the particle system.
