Select points, click on the kidney, hit the space bar, try choosing the style... nothing!

I read the tutorial over and over and I can't understand. I can create video games, I know how to use hundred of programs but when it comes to styles in AS... can't wrap my head around it.

Yeah, it wasn't intuitive to me either. But it IS easy.

Just select the shape using Q and then go to styles and choose a style.

I'm having difficulty too-not with filling a shape- but setting a style to reuse

If I choose new style it goes to default

white and black stroke-- I type a style name and change colors lets say 'apple' red fill and brown stroke

Selcting this item(style menu) always correctly goes to the chosen colors but I cant apply them to any object

if I select an already drawn object and the color pallete uses that objects color( with checkerboard) hitting space bar doesnt make it change color to the style

if I now re-select my 'apple' style the color pallete goes to the apple colors BUT the selected object just deslects! if I reselect the object and try to reselect 'apple' the colors change but object doesnt change

if I select 'apple' first then draw a circle the new object still retains the previous objects color and wont change to 'apple'

I cant make it work

You only select your saved styles in the style window to make changes to that specific style. Once saved (by selecting new and changing name and colors, like you did), you can apply it by doing:

1) Select 'none' in the style window. (This is optional, but should probably be done until you get the gist. This issures you are on the default style.)

2) Select the shape you want to apply a style to. (This will show that shape's current style parameters in the style window.)

3) Now, in the style window, use the 'applied styles' buttons (bellow the outline settings) to select which saved style you want for that shape. (The fill and outline parameters will not change, but the shape will now reflect the saved style's settings.)

If you want to create new shapes using your saved style, you just need to apply it to your default settings first.

Thanks--it worked-!- I wasn't using the 'Applied Styles' pulldowns

Although there are 2 of them( menu pulldowns)-- and the first one(seems) has no effect --but when choosing the second pull-down and selecting object I can use the new style

Thanks

Well, with those 2 “Applied Styles” pulldowns one can apply two styles to a shape...
One “Style” can be used, e.g., to apply the shape colour... or else....
The other “Style can be used, e.g., to apply a line colour... or else...

Styles are very helpful to use the same appearance on several objects...
If one has to modify those objects later, all one has to do, just edit the Style...
Please have a look at Tutorial 2.7, Styles.

Cheers
