My first walkcycle - The egyptian girl

Hello all

I have finally found a way to animate in AS Pro that is pretty close to what I want, so I made a first attempt at a walkcycle.

Still needs tons of work, for one, I need to find a way to make stretch and squash the way I want it, it needs secondary motion, to the head and robe mostlly.

I also need to find a way to swap parts, especially for the hands and feet that would allow me to "tweak points" as I go.

All in all it is getting there, thanks a bunch to peoples like DK and few others who helped me learning what I learned so far and to Genete for his scripts.

Her left foot looks twisted to me. I think that the original pose was not proper for a 3/4 walk cycle but for a 3/4 action (like the one you suggested, pickup the barrel).
Also I see her knee bended in the opposite direction at some frames.

Hello Genete

Yeah, bad pose to start with, just a go at animating it with bones, and the knee is designed that way, I made the character from "La Reine Soleil movie" but didnt bother with the design.

Thanks for the constructive critism!

Great smooth walking movement there GCharb. Just need to straighten out that left foot and maybe split her feet with two bones to get some fold in the feett as they contact the groud. Otherwise damn fine work for a first wlak cycle!

Thanks DK

Took a minute, I am working on hand and feet poses at the moment, will use good old scale for stretch and squash, will post result in a bit!

Hello again

Fixed a few things, made better oriented feet too and made another quick walkcycle

Stretch and squash will be easy, now looking at ways to switch body parts while keeping them on top to be tweaked.

I am getting better aquainted with the timeline, it is basic but does the job for the most part.

I like AS more and more, I totally love the drawing tools, could have better gradients but all in all very flexible.

Back to the beast!

Hello DK

Traditional animator for 30+ years, was an Animo(Cambridge Animation) beta tester and user here in Montreal, also 3d animator for 17-18 years, started on Silver(Amiga platform), then went to Hash 3d software not long after. Worked professionaly in 3d using 3DSMax and Softimage mostlly.

Yes...I cut my teeth on 3D but just got so frustrated at waiting for scenes to render, modelling, texturing etc all too draining for a one man studio to produce anything quickly. Soon as I started working with Moho (AS) within a couple days I was creating full animations complete with soundtracks in only hours. Since then I have hardly ever looked back.

Looking good... some suggestions:
right foot twisting
these things need some movement.
head
shoulders
hair
dress/kaftan

the first step (onto screen) looks better than the others for some reason? she seems to develop a limp for subsequent steps (limbs seem to SNAP back rather than ease smoothly) - also, more importantly, you have to try to inject some character into the cycle to seem more like a child, add a skip? dunno :)

good progress though 8)
