Hi again everyone, long time no see..

I've been busy with traditional art making and I've been a bit quiet in learning animation lately.

I got an idea watching a girl sitting before me in the metro. She was all the time looking at her own reflection on the window, chewing her bubblegum and just adding up some more mascara. Her eyes were caked with mascara.

I'd like to develop this animation into a proper story, with the girl doing all those things that I mentioned above and the sound of bubblegum chewing and then spotting a good looking guy - who's not eventually interested in her. I've thought that she's all alone in the picture (no other characters appear) and basically it's just she acting up all the feelings of prettiness and frustration.

I'd appreciate comments and ideas of mprovement. I know the animation is not much just yet but I like the simple setting. If I'd be able to make a longer animation this time and put some thought into it.. I'd be happy

I'm so scared of recording sounds I don't know how to do it yet.

Looks nice to me. The effect will highly depend on how much detail you add, and how much of the actual movements (of the girl and the subway) you re-create.

Recording sounds can be learned. If you have absolutely no appropriate equipment, go to someone who has.

I'm planning on making a daytrip next weekend and record some metro sounds. I have few equipment on myself that I think are enough for this although a bit old. But I've never recorded sounds before.
Then I'll record some chewing-gum sound and I'll try to edit them together. I suppose that's the way to proceed.

On a visual side..I think I'll invest on simplicity. But more movement. Perhaps this will be a most boring animation ever. We'll see.

Funny, every once in a while I meet somebody in the Berlin underground who records the sound. Unfortunately they did a lot of repairs over the last years, so the "romantic" squeaking of tracks is almost gone. Fortunately I made a good recording of that some 15 years ago ... (if you need that, you can have it)

Train sounds are a collector's item, it seems, so there are lots of websites where you can get good recordings and use it for free. Here are some I use myself, maybe you find them useful:

Same with me. In december I had to finish the sound for a film because I needed to apply for a festival, and I was waiting for weeks for the right weather because I needed to record some rain. The weather was fine unfortunately, and the deadline came nearer and nearer. Finally I remembered that there are lots of sites which offer free sounds, and I was able to do the sound design with nearly exclusively those files.

I'm so much into the habit of doing it all myself that it just didn't occur to me to search somewhere else.

I will upload some recordings of mine to that site, just to pay back.
