Want to create a cuckold clock spring (it look like a bunch of X's attached together) so I can spring out someones head...it's an animation cliche that's been done for years...I'm getting confused with the bones...any advise?
Thanks

Recipe:
1) Create a chain of bones where the origin of the the child is at the tip of the parent. All the bones has a relative angle of zero relative to its parent in construction. Let's say you create 4 bones:
a->b->c->d
2) Constrain the child bones angles according to this:
a: none
b: -2*a
c: 2*a
d:-2*a
3) Create other similar chain of bones in the same place but the constrains different. Let's call them e,f,g,h.
e: -1*a
f: 2*a
g: -2*a
h: 2*a
Obviously the bone a is the bone engine. You can create another bone outside of the chain and control the bone 'a' with it.
If you don't understand it or cannot construct it I can post a sample file.

Well, one could type in a lot of bone constraints and dynamics and automate the thing.
Or do it by hand. All you need is a chain of bones of roughly equal length. The trick is to select all of them before you apply the rotate or shorten bone tool. This way all bones are affected the same way. I used ths to animate the cord of a telephone once.
