Quick :) Help needed with sound not syncing with render

Hello.
I have a bit of a problem here.
I did a test render 200 frames of my beginner animation.
The setup was
Pal preset
Frame rate 24
Exported as AVI
Hmm,
The sound is way out when it comes to playback. The sound is correct, but the animation takes longer than the sound track. Sound and animation do not match.
Is this something to do with the frame rate?
Perhaps I should try a frame rate of 25.
I also noticed that although I selected end frame to be 204, the whole animation got rendered! Did I do something wrong here?
Sorry for all the questions, but it does take time to render so I need to get it right as quickly as possible.
