Adding texture to raster layers.

I'm working on an animation with a very specific hand-drawn style and I'm having a lot of trouble with one aspect of it.

basically I have a texture I want to mask to one layer on a character. as the character moves one way, I'd like the texture underneath to move another, but to only be visible as a 'fill', if you know what I mean. I know this is possible on after effects as long as the layer is all one colour, but I don't have access to the software.

thanks in advance.

You'd need to mask in the texture image layer with a fill only shape. Then you'd probably need a duplicate layer for your outlines above all this.

how would I go about doing that?

Group layer (or bone layer) (set as hide all masking)
--Outline layer/s (duplicate of layer that need this texture masked in. (do not mask)
--Image layer with the texture
--Fill only shapes that need the texture (set as add to mask)

synth, you forgot to mention one setting:

Group layer (or bone layer) (hide all)
- Outline layer/s (duplicate of layer that need this texture masked in. (do not mask)
- Image layer with the texture (mask this layer)
- Fill only shapes that need the texture (add to mask)

I think you should set the texture layer to multiply to get the best effect. Experiment a bit with the opacity of the texture layer, and with the contrast of its bitmap.

Remember that you'll see effects only after rendering.

ST,

Well that's the default setting of any layer, but it couldn't hurt to mention it.
