Serial code

I have Anime Studio installed on a Windows XP I never use and I want to install it on Ubuntu. However, I, uh, misplaced the serial code, and I can't just copy the files from my Windows installation because there's no way that'll run on Linux. So, I need to reinstall it, but is there some way I can find the Serial code in a file somewere in the program files? Or, could I just copy the program files and replace the Windows animestudio.exe with the Linux animestudio? Otherwise, Lost Marble (or whoever owns AS), I could use Synfig . (manipulative smile)
Oh, and thanks in advanced. Unless you know what to do but choose not to tell me, in which case, scr-- you in advanced.

Executable binaries of windows and linux versions of Anime Studio are obviously not compatible. Even I think that the serial number is not compatible either (ie. you cannot use the same serial number between different platforms).
But you should have obtained your own serial number for linux version when you obtained the binary, don't you?.
Anyway, after enter the serial number to enable the program, it creates a text file called: Anime Studio pro.app.settings where the registration number is inside.
BTW, you can use Synfig too.

I have that disk that has the setup for both Windows and Unix platforms, and it only had one serial code, so I assume it works on both platforms. I'll try looking in that text file.

um, where is the file located? I'm trying to find it it on the Windows version to install it on Ubuntu, not the other way around.
Also, being so unorganized, I opened the AS box to discover not the AS setup disk, but an Xbox game I'll probably never play. So, I thought I could download the trial from smithmicro.com and activate it, but I don't see a Linux version. What should I download? Any help would be appreciated.[/quote]

If you can find your serial it's the same for both platforms (I've migrated with my licence from M$ to Linux). And I presume you can use it for Mac as well.

Where do you get the Linux package though? Should I download the Mac installer, because it says it's "universal binary"?
And I can't find that file with the serial code in it. Do you know where it's located?

Here's a link to an 5.6 linux update. Not sure if it's a full installer or not. Serarch this forum otherwise and you'll come across some link.

As for where you can find your serial I'm sorry to say I can't help you.

I have AS standard, and I don't see a Linux version there. Is standard available for Linux? If not, I guess I could use my old computer for animation (I don't know how to use synfig 0_o)

Never have been an standard version of AS for linux. They only released the PRO version. Mainly because image sequence is a pro feature and in linux there is not direct video export available.

Perhaps it's time to upgrad to Pro, if only I can find where the serial code is stored.
Anyway, after enter the serial number to enable the program, it creates a text file called: Anime Studio pro.app.settings where the registration number is inside.
I found "Anime Studio.user.settings", but I can't find a registration number in it. Where is the file located???

In my AS application folder (/usr/local/bin/AnimeStudioPro_5.6 for me, probably something else for you) I've got a file called "Anime Studio Pro.app.settings" in which my serial is listed.

I noticed that when I installed 5.6 to a separate location and when I bought 5.6 Standard, neither of them contains that settings file with the serial number.
Hopefully you registered yours and maybe can get you serial from SM.
