using anime for tv series

Hi,
We are creating a anime based action/adventure tv series for cartoon channel.
We were using flash earlier but we plan to shift to anime studio...
My queries are:
1. What are the advantages of anime studio over flash?
2. Is any studio using anime studio here for commercial purposes?I
I mean just anime studio and without any integration with toon boom
studio. Can I see any example of such work?
3. Is it easy to create shadow/highlights/depth of field/out of focus
and effects ..especially effects like explosion, lasers and blurring backgrounds etc..using this software...by effects I mean high-end anime
kind of 2d effects used in series like pokemon, samurai jack etc....
Because my main reason I want to shift to anime studio is for effects etc..
And effects have to be great as our animation is going to be limited.
Are there any latest tutorial link for effects?especially blurring bg background-which is typical of all anime shows....and glow/shadow
and rendering tutorial videos as well and any other info which will be suitable
for me...
thanks

1. AS is much better at character animation than Flash, and easier to use.
2. There are plenty here using AS commercially. And a couple of series.
3. Yes, yes, yes, and.....yes. Plus ASP includes a built-in particle system.
Other than that, I'd say do your own homework.

If you go to the Toomboom forum they will tell you it the best software, flash forum will say the same. So here is my quick brake down.
Flash - best for web and web games
Toonboom - best for frame by frame
Anime Studio - ???? Go to the other forums and look at the 'Share my work'. Then look at the one here. Here you will see some badly drawn, off time animation (I'm talking about myself) but animation by almost everyone has Anime Studio gets something done.
The software is not going to make the animation for you no matter what you get.

Have you sold it and have a contract? For the right price (sorry, but if your going to get paid, then I expect to be paid also) I will get you up to speed on how you and your animators can use AS. I'm in NY. If not post on the job board.

I've been experimenting in different software these days and i can say that i cant easily remake most of my animation in Toon Boom or Flash that I've already created in Anime Studio.

on point 3...
Thats all compositing. It's a big stage. One that you need to get right. Using AS for animation will allow you to raise the bar a little animation-wise. Obviously, if your team has the talent.
Get your workflow right in AS and follow it through to comp. Something like After Effects or Combustion.
You can apply camera moves, d.o.f., motion blur, lens effects, and grading all in comp. I'd keep all effects away from your animation software simply to free up animators. You don't want effect or camera re-shoots going back to your animation team.
good luck

Don't limit your options. Is your budget so tight you can only afford one tool?
AS is cheap compared to other applications. It's value is in the character animatiion with bones. If you need "realistic" particle and other types of effects you would want to combine AS with another application in my opinion. Yes you could possibly create explosions and those types of effects with AS but that is not its focus and you may find it is easier in other applications dedicated those types of effects.
Motion blur is definately not a strength in AS. DOF is something that can be faked using layer blurring but probably once again would be easier to do in post (it's easier to key one "DOF" setting then keying the blur of a bunch of layers).
I don't think any "one" application is suited for all needs. You don't want to toss out one application merely because it is missing one thing that another program has. Use them both.
You will find that NO studio uses only ONE SINGLE application.

I can't reveal too much here, NDA's and all that but there are studios that do use TB for pretty much everything .... entirely, bar editing, true.Animators do like it but it does have a few issues, all apps do.
Same goes for ASPRO, there are places that use it for TV series.
People get used to flash but rarely do people love it.
ASPRO is quite an amazing little program.
Try out a few of your hardest feats with it and check out some of the cool ways you can beat it's "first glance" limitations.
I know many of us are clenching every part of our anatomies in anticipation of ASPRO 6. Who knows what will be possible then.

1. What are the advantages of anime studio over flash?
Bones, a colour palette, reusable layers, designed for TV animation (Flash was designed for web web). switch layers which are ideal for multi-language lip-sync (just import language 2 data file and re-output). Also native 3D space (Z-axis) which enables true 3D camera movers, multiplane and 3DTV output.

Yes, though most use illustrator, photoshop and other tools to generate the entire series. Combustion is a popular addition.
3. Is it easy to create shadow/highlights/depth of field/out of focus

ASP has a particles system. It can generate depth of field well. Character shadows/highlights can be done but there are several different approaches to this - getting blending between the fill areas isn't possible.
Because my main reason I want to shift to anime studio is for effects etc..
And effects have to be great as our animation is going to be limited.
You might want to look at Aftereffects as a post tool as well.
The final look of your film is only as good as your compositor - a good compositor can transform the look of your film, elevating it to the next level. A bad compositor can trash your animation. Been there, found that out on too many TV series with Animo etc. same is true for ASP - if you have a creative compositor, you can achieve some amazing looking shots.
For series, ASP will beat flash commercially
This is 100% Anime Studio - full 3D stereo image
Like to see you make all those 3D machines in flash
Larger 3D image
The 3 minute all-ASP "Machine Masters" short

Are these the type of effects you're looking for? They are part of a larger effort that I'm currently working on.
