Layering objects within a layer

Hi, I'm relatively new to AS 5, and am wondering where the command or feature is to place one object beneath an other within the same layer. AS seems to pick which one gets to be on top, but surely there is a way to change this?

Ok, if you are working in a vector layer, you can select the points of the shapes you want to be over the others and cut and paste them.
Another option is using the select shape tool. using this tool click on the shape you want and press up or down on your keyboard to send it up or down of the other shapes. Probably you will need to press several times the button (there are buttons on the toolbar which works exactly like the keyboard).
Now, if you are referring to layers inside a bone, group, switch or particle layer, just take and drag the layer up or down to the place you want.
