This has been a bug since forever. If you are zoomed too close to an object it wont paint (create shape) it, or even worse paint/create part of the shape and the off screen area looks glitched even when rendered.

If I remember well, somewhere in the help it says you must not paint a shape if you are not viewing all its points on workspace.
