Layer ordering AS6

I have tried various permutations, checked setting and preferences, and am slowly concluding that layer ordering in no longer animatable. Yes?
Or, is there something I am missing. I hope so - it is/was a handy feature.

I also had some problems with that.
I'd imagine double-clicking on the group layer that has all the child layers that you want to layer order (animatable) and then check the box of the group that says something like 'allow effects to be animated'...or something. But there's a box that you can check when you double-click on a layer that lets you animate any changes you make along the timeline. Try that. And take 2 pieces of cheese and call me in the morning.

Group (or bone) layer, Depth sort tab, enable animated layer order check box.
It was the cheese that did it.!
I wonder why there is NO mention of this in the help file? at least in the body text.
Did you ever try a square of chocolate on top of the cheese?

It probably isn't in the help file because it was added very close to the end. 99% of my AS work DOESN'T use layer ordering. So... having to constantly switch to layer 0 to change layer order was driving me insane. I kind of begged for this feature just a tiny bit.

I also like the fact that its not on automatically. Nice.

I have used it enough to be real glad you begged -- tiny bit or otherwise.
As to on or off? I would have opted for default ON.
No accounting for taste

I'm having some instances where it would be nice to have layers that aren't in group layers but just in the project be animatable (like If I want one character/bone layer behind another here, and then I want him in front here). Am I SOL? I guess I could put every layer in the project in a master bone layer, but I'm sure that would cause some kind of weird issue too.

Layer order only works in group or bone layers.
If you have a single layer that you would like to animate the layer order among other bone or group layers, put them all in a group or bone layer and animate the order. The layer order inside OTHER group or bone layers will not be effected.
p.s. There shouldn't be any problems putting everything in a group or bone layer at any time during production. I do this all the time.
