keyframe layers?

Hey, This is my first post... I have not done any posting because I like this thing called google... but I have run across something that I can't seem to figure out...

I need layers to be keyframed in anime studio 6 debut... like, if a layer is in one position on frame 1... then I move it on frame 2... I want it to still not be moved on frame 1... like in anime studio 5.6.... thats about all I think I need to say... I looked in the options and such but can't figure out how... I figure its impossible... is there even an alternative? if so, I would be happy if you shared it with me.

P.S. it is for a project that I am working on... I will reveal details on this project later... but its gonna be good 8)

Trey.

I don't have AS6 but in 5.6 to do what you want on frame one you would add in another keyframe as a "holder" and then it would move for frame two as you describe. I'd imagine it's the same?

AS 6 has not changed how key frames are handled. However channel display has changed. The channels are not visible until they have a key frame. If you want a layer to "hold" until a specific frame and then "jump" to a new spot (like a camera cut) use "step" key frame interpolation on the later key frame.

To do this first go to frame 1 and with the layer translation tool just click on the screen to create a key frame. Try not to move the mouse as you do this just click. Now the layer translation channel is visible. Select that key frame on frame 1 and right click on it and select "step" as the interpolation. Now when you translate the layer on a later frame it won't move at all until it hits that key frame and then it will "step" or "jump" to the new location.

if you want the layer to "hold" from frame 1 to frame 10 then move smoothly from frame 10 to frame 20, do the same as above but don't set the frame 1 key to step. Copy the key from frame 1 and paste it on frame 10 then create a new key on frame 20 by translating the layer. Now the layer will hold up to frame 10 and from frame 10 to frame 20 it will smoothly translate.

ok, I am not sure you know what I mean, when I said move layer, I meant move the layer in the layers box.... as in, let's say, layer 1 is above layer 2... I need it to be like that on frame 1.... but when I go to frame 6 I want it to be under....

I know anime studio 5.6 allowed you to do this... but I can't do it in six...

EDIT: so basically, I already knew how to do what you posted... but it was a bit of misunderstanding...

ah ok.

put layer 1 and 2 into a group, double-click on the group and in the 'depth sorting' tab check 'enable animated layer ordering'.

now it'll work. this one got me too.
