I have AS5 (not pro) and I want to make a stick man's body segments look like popsicle sticks with curved ends, but i don't know how i could be able to make the shape symmetrical. Any help would be great, thanks!

Use the grid and check grid snap. Alternatively enter symmetric coordinates values with the numerical input of the translate points tool.

Would i have to do this after i make the whole thing a shape or as i add points, also what's grid snap?

No grid in the non pro version. Try the direct edition of the points by coordinates.

Thank you very much!

Another way is to draw one side of a shape, vertical downward. Copy then paste, Ctrl c, Ctrl v. Use the size tool to flip you copy. Attach the points and fill.
Gives a ruff symmetry. You will most likely need to rotate your shape.

start with a circle
copy and past it
translate it downward - constraining
add joining points off the outer edges of circles
create shapes for the two vertical lines and the upper/lower halves of the circles
An alternative to create shapes is to trace over the circle/lines
