I have an animation with a lot of animated layer transparency changes. When I export the animation it works fine, but if I use the F5 Preview, instead of my layers fading in and out they just cut hard in and out.

Is this a bug or a feature?

The F5 preview is "quick and dirty". It's about the same as using the File->Preview menu command. This means layer effects, like shadows, blur, and yes, transparency, are left out.
