Why bother with a script when there are lots of free color pickers available.

I use colorfinder for simple picks (free):

colorpic - iconico.com for more complex schemes.

Okay thanks, but can those softwares be written into AS? I don't want to be having to go back and forward from application to application just to find out what the color is for something?

Can anyone help?

No, it is standalone software but colorfinder is only 40kb

You don't need to find out what an existing color is - it is what it is. If you want to use it for another shape you can either use the eyedropper or use the 'select shape' push/pull.

If this doesn't meet your needs perhaps you could explain in more detail how you are working.

What I would like to do is, import an image, lets say its a jpeg, and somehow be able to choose a color from anywhere on that jpeg and have AS tell me what it is. Rather than having a whole other software running and toggling back and forth just to find out the hex#.

So what I'm suggesting is perhaps the inkdrop can work just like how it works in photoshop. Or a hot key, say the tab button, which tells you what the color is where ever your cursor is. Thus changes the swatch color in the tool bar.

Is this possible? Can anybody help?

This is already possible. Just select "custom image" for the swatches and set fill by clicking somewhere in the image and stroke by right-clicking.

Thanks for the help. What I was really wanting the color picker script for was when I import a movie clip into AS. The color is constantly changing in the footage so I want an easier way just grab color, instead of importing a new image into the swatches every time.

Can anyone help with this script request?

I second malcolms request, it would be very handy to be able to chose color from anywhere on the screen, is it possible to write a script for this purpose?

There are pros and cons to each approach.

Using a 3rd party utility, you have choices, it's already done, some are free, it would let you grab a color from any movie, not just something imported into AS, but would include anything in AS, or a web page, or Photoshop etc. Plus, if you used such a utility it would also work with Photoshop, AS, Gimp, etc. etc. I would agree switching apps can be a pain, but color grab utilities are the most straightforward, hotkey, you can have it in your windows status bar.

Having one built into AS, you could only grab AS content. If it can be done. You could only paste into AS. You may have to reinstall each time AS is upgraded, could have incompatibilities, bugs which crash - effect AS. They say if it ain't broke don't fix it.

Here's two:

And this is a neat color scheme designer:

Hey malcolm, what version of anime studio are you running because I am running AS9.5 and the lm_eydropper is able to pick a color from a movie clip.
