Hey guys,

I`m really confuse. I know how to enable anagyph output from the settings screen but I have no idea of how to *control* it...it keeps all the layers at the same distance from each other.
my questions are:

1- how do I set the distance between layers or objects (far and close)? And how to keep 2 layers at the same distance?

2- is there any way to output a stereo version but NOT an anaglyph one?
(so I could import in after effects and try other stereo methods).
I`m using AS 5.5 right now. Are there new settings available for stereo video on 6.0?

any help is welcome, I couldn`t find these answers on my own.

1. Create some layers with any content. Select one layer, select the translate tool (1). On top of the project window you'll see 3 numbers, one is for Z = depth. Create several layers with different Z depths. Select the orbit tool (9) under "Workspace".

If you work in 3D space like this, use the camera movements for best effect.

2. For this you'll need to finish your animation first, then duplicate the file. One file gets a slightly different camera position (and movement). Render both.

But I`m still a little confuse about your last comment. Do I have to manually set the differences between the 2 views? Or is there a way to set the Z distances and render (just like I would do to make an anaglyph version), but instead of anaglyph, generate 2 separate files?

I've never tried AS' stereoscopic rendering, but since I never saw any other control than the checkbox in the project settings, I don't know of any other way to create the necessary two different views.

There are several options for stereo output but the best is to have the principle character animation on z=0. Any foreground objects should be on e the Z+ depth, and background objects Z-. Depending om your focal length, the Z=/- can be anything from 1 or 2 to 4 r more. just experiment with rectangles before you animate. Think of the nulti-plane effect and you then know what you have to do.

There is no need to duplicate the animation levels as it's the camera which moves. There are three camera positions - the center camera is the stock Moho set-up position. The left and right camera are displaced squally left and right from the centerline. If you use the anaglyphic option, you don't even have to do anything except tick the anaglyph box in the settings - Mike has calculated the rest.

If you are fool enough to render full colour high res, then you need to do the camera moving manually - If there are no pans or camera turns then it is simple.

But if you have a turn and worse, a turn and camera roll, the maths are extreme. The re4ason being is the X axis becomes the Z axis as the camera rotates, so you have to calculate this on the fly - I have a calculator for this on my site, together with the source code for the calculator. If you use it commercially, please do, just credit me with the work (PM or email me for the details).

The forum section is closed due to Russian spammers bypassing the registration system. The main site will running until the hosting finishes, which is soon. after than, not sure if I'll keep it going - I have another big (non-animation) commercial website which I am working on and its taking up 90% of my free time.

Full-colour HD3D can be done but you need to be pretty clued up on the maths: The results in HD do look good: Be warned the results will look more like cardboard cutouts unless you really play with the depth cues ... ie, to animate a hand towards the viewer has to be done on a different Z level (and that is seriously hard).

For the most part, having the cardboard cutout effect is just fine.

There is a real future in HD3D, with Sky announcing they are to start a 24 hour a day 3D channel. Most international broadcasters either are broadcasting some 3D already, or getting ready to broadcaster stff like sport> Any animation completed in HD and stereo will be of great interest to the animation buyers.
