I don't know what's going on. . .I'm trying to render a section of my project and it ain't happenin'. I enter the key range, do the whole process, and the render window just sits there never starting. I don't have QT open (I'm trying to render a mov), and I don't know what else it could be. I feel like I'm missing something. Can a project too large make this happen? This one is about 5000 frames.

Ok my bad. Sorry to cause an uproar in the forum with my controversial posting.
It was just taking a year to start. But now it hath started. Crisis averted. Don't wake the president.

Since I somewhat get the impression that the preview window slows down the rendereing, I habitually start the render and then alt-click AS invisible. When AS is done it will pop up the renderedQT automatically.

Ooooo. I didn't know you could do that, or that it mattered. Do you mean just minimizing/hiding AS (in mac speak?) or is it a special command?

Just minimizing or put in background. I always do that with applications that render, like FinalCut or iDVD or AS or TVPaint.

Rendering does go faster when you don't watch it. Rendering happens in a background thread, and displaying the results requires some extra synchronization that slows things down.
Another option (if you're using Pro) is to render using the Batch Rendering window. Depending on the file, batch rendering can be quite a bit faster.

I'll try these next time I do a render. Thanks.
