I spend all day today working on my animation saving every time I get something done... ya know... to keep from losing my work. And now it's gone. AS was giving me trouble, I wasn't able to move layers into the switch so I closed it and went to reopen the file to get this message:

Line 473 is a string of layer orders. So I looked above and noticed

"animated_layer_order true"

so I replaced it with "animated_layer_order false"

Then I removed all the data between the "[" and "]" just below it out of pure guesswork and desperation but it worked.

I guess I will be going to bed without being frustrated but still it does take away some more of the confidence I have with AS.

That sucks. I hope someone can help you recover the file.

Definitively animated layer sort should be done with a raise up/down button and not with the mouse drag/drop only. Mouse signals can make crazy the interface and leave the file in a non working status. Button click is basically the same as a mouse drag and drop but with the parameters completely known, so it is safer.

AFAIK there isn't. I wanted to tell that it should be a feature of the new version.

I think I confused it by constantly moving the layers onto a switch for testing a vector layer for its interpolation then taking them off the switch and trying other layers and repeating that over and over. I think I might have moved layers around on frame zero a hundred times while having animated layer ordering on. I suppose it couldn't keep track of all the layer changes.

This has happened to me too. When you get his error message, you won't be able to open the file as is. The best you can do is edit the file in a text editor to recover some of it (as you did). Here's a thread about this:

It seems layer ordering is prone to this sort of error.
