frames freeze in quicktime and iMovie

When I export a video to a .mov format file and play it back in Quicktime (or import into iMovie) .. the animation freezes on a frame about 5 seconds or so in until it gets to the end of the file and then jumps to the last frame . .

if I go through frame by frame it works like I want it to .. but the exporting seems to not work properly in QT .. anyone else have this issue ..

is it possible that my settings are off .. I don't have the most powerful Mac in the world but I certainly have more than the system requirements for ASd 6. . .

if I import it into iMovie then save it then it works fine .. which is what I will likely use to render the final animations (after adding sound and transitions and such) .. but it seems to me I ought to be able to view an accurate animation after the first import . .

I just started playing with ASd 6 and if this is what I am going to get as a result then I've wasted $50 . .

quick update .. the problem might be with my Mac's QT .. the file runs just fine on my older G4 desktop . . . 1/4th the speed and it works fine .. who knew

so another update .. (gee I love using the forum to solve my own problems . . )

it seems that the real culprit is my rendering was making really big files .. why . . because I told it to save with NO COMPRESSION . . (what was I thinking. . .)

when I saved the animation using Mp4 compression it worked like you'd expect . . .

so now my new question for any of you out there . .

what settings do you use to export animations when you are going to use them in iMovie to master a full video?

Workflow:

AS -> uncompressed HD video -> video editor
video editor -> uncompressed HD master AND compressed whatever format for web etc.

You don't actually play the uncompressed big files, they only exist to provide best quality input for the next step. If you want to check movements or just have a temporary result to show, use smaller dimensions and a codec to your taste (I use MPEG-4 or h.246)

slowtiger . .

that's actually really helpful .. . it didn't occur to me to make two versions .. a HQ one for iMovie and a compressed version to check my animation . . .

thanks. . .
