I'm wanting to trace a drawing I've done but without AS automatically filling/stroking the shape once it becomes closed.

A bit like in this example where the guy draws with lines first then fills in later with his colours.

Everytime I try it gives me the default white fill and black stroke.
Any ideas?

Switch it off? That's what the checkbox in the title bar of the project window is for when you choose the freehand tool.
