Erase Edge problem

If I have problems doing things I have no idea whether it is a bug or I just am doing something wrong.

Anyway. I have the case where when I try to use Erase Edge on an edge, it erases ALL edges, and even removes the Fill of the shape it is part of!

What's going on?

Are you using the correct tool? You mean the "hide edge" tool? It sounds like you are using the "Remove Shape" tool.

I am using the 'Delete Edge' tool in the Draw area (has a red 'x' as part of it).

It can be duplicated like so. Create a closed shape with about 6 points, auto-filled. Then create an open line-segment outside the shape with 4 points. hook up the two end points of the line segment to two existing neighboring points of the close shape.

Now try to apply the 'hide edge' tool to the line segment that is defined by the two points the line segment and closed shape are joined.

All of the line segments go away, and so does the fill!

I'm not saying this is a bug, but you can now can get a sense of what I'm trying to accomplish, and maybe tell me the right way to do it! :)

* * *

AHA! I figured it out (for once by myself...hehe)!

After you attach the segment, select all and apply 'Make Shape'. Then Fill the now closed portion defined by line segment. THEN apply 'hide edge'. and there you go! :)

Glad you figured it out. Took me a bit to figure out what you were having trouble with. The delete edge tool is like a freaking sledge hammer. It will destroy shapes pretty much 99% of the time.
