Particle overlap

Here is the senerio. I have a bird's eye view of a few roads. I am using particles for the cars going down the road (straight line). Is there a way to NOT have them overlap using particles? (looks very odd to have a car on top of another) I know I can use the evenly spaced button, however, it would look too uniform. I'm afraid the answer is no, however, I still wanted to throw it out to the forum.

In response to your question, I have another question: is it possible to use physics with particles? (I can't test this, I only have 5.6). If it is possible, maybe some collision detection would solve your problem?

I think physics may solve it however, I have 6.2...No physics.

I tinkered around but couldn't find a perfect solution.
I did however find some decent settings. that may help...
started with the scripts/particle effect/rain
As you can see in the image there are 3 particle groups that are varied in location to give variety to the release. I also for this test added three colors for variety and moved them around in the layers so they would not match up.
I tweaked the settings a little for each particle group, so settings in the image above are for only one group.
Rain 2 is the same as screen shot except...
Particle & Preview Count 34
Velocity 0.50
Velocity Spread 0.02
Rain 3 is the same except...
Particle & Preview Count 38
Velocity 0.50
Velocity Spread 0.01
The variation made it so that each lane would not move at the same pace.
The velocity spread kept the particles from getting to close to one another.
Also note that the size of the particles emitters (source width, height, depth) are all 0.
I did tinker more with it and found if I change Velocity Spread to 0 I can bump up the particle count more and more and not have overlapping. So tinker around and have fun with it.
