Switch layers within switch layers?

Hello again. Simple question this time which I haven't even tried so I might be cheating by coming here first for advice, but I thought that maybe I could save myself some time before going down that avenue.

Can switch layers be layers within switch layers? i.e. Can I have one switch layer with certain intepolated motion and another with other motions and switch between the two like they are vector layers within another swtich layer?

i've not tried it myself but I would say yes.
however, i strongly reccomend you stop using switch layers for everything and start using actions :P

I've worked with several levels of nested switch layers without problem.

Yes. Switch Layers can contain bones, so you can have a hierarchy of switch layers that all move together, by binding a switch layer to the one above...

Thanks guys.

I hear what you're saying funksmaname, and I do intend to use actions for plenty of things. Right now I am only using switch layers for head turns and blinks, actions will come into it when I have a fully rigged skeleton and I plan to use them primarily for moving the body.

However, it is an elaborate experiment in its early stages and ultimately I may live to regret not taking the advice of an experienced animator like yourself at this stage. Feel free to say 'I told you so' if I do hit that brick wall. For now I have a specific strategy that I want to stick with.

Perhaps it is arrogance, but I am going to stay on this course until I succeed or fall off the road. At the very least I will learn

hey - don't just blindly follow my advice! I'm still learning too... you might discover something that changes my process so keep at it till you hit a brick wall.

I'd never say i told you so - I'm all for trying things - i wish you luck!
