how do i stop ASP8 from automatically filling in shapes?

i have de-selected 'auto-fill' but it still sometimes does it

How are you creating the shape? There is an auto-fill option for the draw shape, add point, and free hand tools, each would need to be un-checked. The create shape tool will always fill an enclosed shape if the proper points are selected.
